Baking powder is used in the preparation of spongy bread and cake.

Baking powder contains sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and tartaric acid. In this reaction baking soda generates carbon dioxide gas.

Because of this gas, bread and cakes are prepared using this swell and become light and fluffy Hence, baking powder is used in the preparation of spongy bread and cake.

Sodium bicarbonate is used in a fire extinguisher

When sodium bicarbonate is treated with an acid, carbon dioxide is formed.

Carbon dioxide is neither combustible nor does it support combustion. It is heavier than air. It is used to extinguish fire. Hence, sodium bicarbonate is used in fire extinguisher.

Toothpaste is used to prevent tooth decay

Toothpaste contains fluorides and bases to neutralize the month acid. The pH of toothpaste is about 8.0.

Hence the toothpaste, which is generally basic, for cleaning the teeth can neutralize the excess acid in the mouth and prevent tooth decay.

Antacids are used to cure indigestion

Hydrochloric acid of pH about 1.4, produced in the stomach helps in the digestion of food. During indigestion, excess of acid is produced in the stomach which causes pain and irritation.

In order to cure indigestion, people use basic substances called antacids. These antacids neutralize the excess acid in the stomach. Hence antacids are used to cure indigestion.

Biological importance of magnesium and calcium

MH-CET Instead of NEET

After the Supreme Court judgement to cancel the NEET. Maharashtra state will be conducting MH-CET for the coming year for its medical admission procedure. The final decision will be declared in the next 2 day.

It has been decided by the state Medical Education Minister  Mr. Vijay Kumar Gavit in a meeting. MH-CET exam will be based on the NEET exam Pattern. Government is willing to take a positive step to solve the issue as said by Mr. Pravin Shingare (C.E.O. Medical counsel)
